The Festival print did not stem from a trend. It was born of a memory. The memory of West African celebrations. The deep, joyful sound of calabashes adorned with cowrie shells. Colors that ask no permission to exist. Women dressed as if every day deserved to be celebrated. I grew up with these images, and for a long time, I did not know they would one day become wearable art.
